I called for a professional technician for a simple switch replacement because there was several things about the way our house was wired that perplexed me and I wanted a professional evaluation when the old switch went bad. The technician performed a diagnostic on that circuit and ensured that although he seemed as dubious as I about this particular installation, there was no indication of an internal short or other problem. He replaced the switch and I was charged for the diagnostic as we had originally agreed.
